About Me

My professional performances contain many of my original songs, covers of popular artists of the 60s & 70s,  one or two old time sing-alongs, and other works from the 60s & 70s.

I am a sixty-six year old, retired high school biology teacher, an OLDEPHARTE. I have been a professional entertainer in one way or another for fifty years as a vocalist, accompanying myself with my guitar.   My desire to perform has served me well - as I have been successfully engaged with this outlook for half a century.    I have written original material, which I have recorded. Some of it can be downloaded from my WebPage or is available on CDs that I carry with me.    I do some volunteer work, performing and leading Sing-Alongs for appropriate venues, such as city, county or state civic community days, fund raisers, senior citizen gatherings, etc.    I can also do one to three hour shows and Sing-Alongs in the early evenings on weekdays.    I do a lot of my original material along with sixties & seventies covers.    I have been extremely popular and a proven crowd attracter for businesses during my long career.    I've been successful in all types of venues and am now semi-retired as a performer.

Performance History

I have been in the entertainment business a long time.

Below is a reverse chronology of that history.

2005 – Present.  I have been performing in the New Castle County area in Delaware and in Polk County in Florida.  In Delaware I have performed at The East End Cafe, The Home Grown Cafe and Millcroft Assisted Living.  In Florida, I have on going engagements for the Florida Citrus Festival in Winterhaven, Friday Night Music Fests in Bartow and First Friday in Lakeland.  I have also led community and civic group Sing-Alongs.  Over 50% of my performing uses original material.

1989 – 2005.   I was a successful mobile disc jockey, doing mostly wedding receptions at private banquet rooms in northern Delaware.  I was the #1 recommended DJ at many local banquet facilities and several independent caterers also recommended me as their #1 choice.  I have now retired as a mobile DJ and I am once more putting all my energies into a performing career. Link To DJ Page

1972-1987.   I performed as a single guitarist/song stylist under the name of Rick Evans at many local Wilmington Area nightspots. Some of these clubs were: Senator Bill's, Haigie's Tavern, The Hitching Post, The Logan House, The Hide-Away Tavern, The Rebel Cork, The Kent Manor inn, The Barley Mill Pub at the DuPont Country Club, and many others whose names have slipped my mind.  I was a regular attraction at the DuPont Country Club for eight years. I had a following of loyal fans at all the clubs I worked.  In 1987 I became weary of all the late hours and cigarette smoke and retired from live performing.

1967.   I was the singing bartender at the Rainbow Club in Wildwood New Jersey, singing with the house band, Sonny Richards and The Panic Buttons.  The Rainbow club featured all the great R&B bands of the sixties.  I got to work with James Brown, The Flamingoes and many others.

1965. I  had composed  many original songs and  recorded six of these as demos at the 919 Sound Studios on Broad Street in Philadelphia.  I auditioned with Philips Records in New York City for a recording contract. I didn't meet their needs at the time - but they considered me.  I met Franki Valli & the Four Seasons during my audition.   I still have copies of all my demos.

1963.  I performed at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia in a small chorus for a benefit performance by regionally known cantor, Sammy Appel. I was also a member of a small summer stock company that performed plays and musicals in the Philadelphia area.

1962 - 1967. I was enrolled at West Chester State College. I was accepted as music major, later switching to biology.   At W.C.S.C. I was in two major productions - playing "Frosh"                          in "Die Fledermaus" and the lead role of "King Arthur" in "Camelot".

1962 - 1964. I was lead soloist and Master of Ceremonies in the Cape May Capers, a variety show of regional importance held in late August in Cape May, New Jersey.

1962, 1963. I did Summer Stock for two years with the Adirondack Festival of Music in Lake George, New York. I played many roles in a wide variety of plays, musicals and shows.

1959 - 1962 At Swarthmore High School. I was the lead soloist in Mixed Chorus for two years, president of Mixed Chorus my senior year and voted Most Musical in the yearbook

1955.  (Age 12) - Summer Stock. Played "Arnie" in the play "I Remember Mama" at the Cape Theater in Cape May, New Jersey. I also played "Nanki-Poo" in a children's production of the "Mikado"' at the Playhouse in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.
